Well. We knew it was coming, I guess.

Actually, the most disappointing thing about this is that it’s apparently gender-specific. So no, you cannot wear this as a male character (not even an equivalent).

Also, for comparison, the original costume. Oh and no: This isn’t the most egregiously revealing outfit in the game.

Just wish the scantily clad-ness wasn’t limited to women only. That’s what makes my face go all D:, cause in actuality I’m rather fond of running around half-naked on occasion. But when half-naked is the modus operandi of a game’s armor (thankfully not the case with TOR) and when its female-only, then for me it stops being about what I’m enjoying for my own enjoyment, and becomes more of an expected performance of female sexuality for some unknown guy’s pleasure. And that just makes my gaming experience a lil… awkward.

Heh. Reminds me of playing AoC. I’m not sure if you’ve played it, but in the intro your character is an escaped slave. Male characters are gallery salves while female characters explicitly start out as sex slaves (this lasts until you hit “go” on the character creation screen, but it still made me roll my eyes). Anyway, you start off in the requisite ridiculous-and-completely-a-historic silk bikini. I didn’t get any pants or chest drops from the lowbie mobs on my first character for whatever reason, so I was in like pirate boots and a bandanna and… this ridiculous silk bikini, and eventually I was like, “Fuck it, the character underwear has to be less demeaning than this.”

Turns our character underwear for women in AoC is a tiny leather g-string. And nothing else.

And eventually I was like, “You know what? Fuck it. This game wants to act like a giggling teenage boy pretending he’s all grown up because he saw his dad’s naughty magazine? Screw that. I’m not scared of tits; I see them every day.”

… aa-aa-and that’s why none of my AoC characters (male or female) wear shirts.

It was surprisingly… liberating, I guess. And, of course, my AoC character is “fat” — in that all her sliders are max except for the chest — so that’s fun as well. :3

Sadly that’s exactly what it is in TOR; explicitly in-universe and, AFAIK, presented without comment.

It’s kinda funny because they have, like, seedy cantina pits overflowing with “naked” Twi-lek holodancers and the audiences cheering them on are mixed gender, but the dancers aren’t.

It’s like… clo-oo-oo-ose. Just try one tiny bit harder and you’ll be there.

The most bizarre thing about the Hutt obsession with scantily-clad humanoid women is that Hutts are all hermaphroditic. So it’s like… why women in particular? Why not all attractive humanoids? Why are giant slug-people even aesthetically interested in humanoids anyway?

I mean, obviously we “know” why… but the actual in-universe justification for it seems suspect. ಠ_ಠ

Yea, I played AoC once, and by played I mean messed around in the character creator for 30 mins (seriously, I’m a char creator junkie) then ran around in my silk bikini for a bit before getting bored with the game. For some reason that art style really fell into the uncanny valley for me and I just couldn’t stand looking at it for long *shrug*.

I think my two favorite characters of all time were my EQ2 monk who wore the Bloodhide Gi (which in retrospect was the skimpiest bit of armor in the game and you had to go out of you way to get it, but was just as revealing as the male version) and my Witchelf from WAR who, being a Witchelf, wore armor that consisted of small metal triangles held up by bared wire. And yea, both of those characters felt really liberating in that “I can wear what I damn well please and kick ass while doing so” that you can so rarely feel in RL. I guess for me its about equivalency, it making sense character-wise, and still having access to that ‘epically fully armored’ look as well. Otherwise I start seeing shades of objectification and ‘sex sells’ and the fun starts getting sapped out.
